Exercise choices

Well yesterday I got inspired to exercise while watching tv. I had been reading a while back on the AOL America Takes It Off 30 ways in 30 days that you should exercise while watching tv in stead of just sitting there. So I thought "well that shouldn't be hard." So I got out out my stair stepper and dusted it off and got out my 2 lb hand weights and did about 200 steps while watching tv last night.

I figure the more that I do that the more steps I might actually do. That plus I have a couple good exercise videos. And maybe if I am brave enough I just might break out the pilates dvds again and see if I cna get any farther with those than I did before. My main problem is that I am pretty sure I have a back problem. I am starting to get the old lady hump from bad posture and I have gone down 2 1/2 inches in the past 7 years and I am only 25. But I also know that pliates is supposed to help with your posture - so I should be doing it right? But man was it painful to start it. From what I have read it is really good exercise and helps you to work all the core muscle groups.

I'd like to hear from anyone reading this - what kind of exercises are you out ther doing to help get your weight down?

hi  really enjoying your journal.
If you really have lost that much height and have a "hump"  at age 25 you need to find out why.  You need to get a bone density scan and check your calcium.  Unless you're in VERY early menopause this should not be happening.
btw, i'm thinking of getting a treadmill or eliptical trainer for my house so i can watch tv while exercising also.  It's way too hot down here in Fla to walk outside most of the year.
keep up the good work!!!

I recommend reading Strong Woman stay Young.  It gives you a group of exercises to build bone strength.  She has a group of books and all of them are very good.
I do water aerobics 2 times a week, and work out on the treadmill and weight machines 3 times a week.  In the summer I ride my bike alot.  Right now I am on a restriction because of having had surgery but those are the exercises I do most.  I never have much luck with TV exercise programs because I am always self-concious around my husband and my son works nights and sleeps days so I can be bouncing around keeping him up, :-)

I have a step machine I bought from qvc for about 80 bucks and I use that while I watch tv. When my muscles fatigue after 200 steps or so I do upper body strength training - one or two sets - then get back on for the next round. I do this til I reach 1500 steps. it's mindless which is why I like it. same with the treadmill but I don't have space for one. I do it at the gym sometimes but for home it's the stepper, free weights and the stability ball.

I have the firm series and it's quite challenging. It really delivers results if you do it religiously.

Run/walking at the park is my favorite when weather allows though.
